OUR WORSHIP TOGETHER

Below is a sample of a typical worship bulletin.  It gives you a sense of the flow of worship.  We have enjoyed beginning and ending our time together by standing as the steeple bell is rung.  We close our time together by reciting a few lines of affirmation, sending us off being reminded of whose we are.

Worship is…
A verb.  It is what we do while gathered together.  We don’t come “to church”.  We are the church, coming together to worship.
Toward God.  God is our audience.  All who participate - the choir, the soloist, the pianist, the reader, the preacher, the usher - are prompters who help guide the congregation’s attention God-ward.  All of us gathered together offer up all that we do  for one purpose: to praise, glorify, and give - sometimes renew - our allegiance to our God and Savior.
Relevant to us.  We unashamedly admit that we love the old hymns. Yet, in so doing we acknowledge the importance to be relevant.  Such is relevant to our congregation.  We seek to always be urged and challenged to also be vibrant.
Alive and growing.  While traditional, we affirm that worship can also be joyous.  It can be alive.  It can be energized.  It an lead us to new insights and to growth.
Open.  All are invited to explore their relationship to the Lord in our worship setting.  All are welcome regardless of their pace or place in that journey.  We don’t assume to know all the answers, but we ask all to come and walk this journey and learn along with us.  We invite those with doubts, fears, questions, past issues with “church,” to come and explore a new possibility with God.
A discipline.  There are times when we need to follow our own feet even when we’re lagging behind.  Life’s pressures of time and responsibilities can press us hard to exclude worship.  It is a mark of maturity to recognize that there will be times when it’s enough to show up!

Worship is not…
A platform to perform.  Those who help lead the various elements of worship, do so from the premise of an offering and service.  It is a vertical act.  It is not a horizontal act meant to view the congregation as their audience.
Led by those not of God’s family.  Leading/Prompting worship is different than attending worship.  The purpose is a vertical one, and those who lead the actions of worship God-ward, lead others where they themselves are heading.  We ultimately seek God’s pleasure and reception of our worship of Him. Of necessity, those leading that worship are of His Kingdom, always in hopes of leading those searching to find him as well.
Isolating.  We acknowledge the need and the intrinsic benefit of corporate worship.
